Collective Worship

EYFS and Key Stage One Harvest Festival led by Rev. Frank Gimson.

Key Stage Two Harvest Festival at the Baptist Church led by Philip Rhoades.

Our Collective Worship sessions are led by Rev. Frank Gimson, Phillip Rhoades, The Open the Book Team, visitors from charities, our Headteacher, other members of staff, The School Worship Council and children across the whole school. Collective Worship is a very valuable part of the school day where we can all come together, celebrate success, learn about the world around us and praise God.

Our school and the local churches

We link our school with the 'Churches together in Downton' in a variety of ways and recently asked parents for their views on what is important about Downton being a Church of England School.

In particular, the ministers from St Laurence's Church and Downton Baptist Church come into school at least once a week to lead the whole school in Worship. There are whole school services at St Laurence's church to celebrate important dates such as our Leavers' Service.

In RE, several classes visit the churches to look at the buildings, special places within the churches, the churchyard and special artefacts.

We have special Worship to recognise important dates in the church calendar and we are learning about other religions.

Our school and the cathedral

We take up opportunities to participate in a variety of workshops and take part in projects offered to schools by Salisbury Cathedral such as the schools' outreach singing.
