We had so much fun on our trip to Paultons Park! We spent the morning taking part in a workshop all about designing and marketing a new rollercoaster before spending the rest of the day on some of the rides. Everyone was very brave in challenging themselves to go on some of the rides they might have been slightly too scared to, especially Mr Rogers! This then led us to be able to complete our DT project later in the term where we designed a theme park ride that used levers and pulleys.

For World Book Day, we had a go at writing our own 50-word stories. It was very hard to try and fit everything we wanted to say into just 50 words! During the afternoon, we spent some time reading with our buddies in Year 1 Dormice class. Everyone looked amazing in their different costumes and pyjamas!

Our Art work involved make gesso, a mixture of Plaster-of-Paris and glue. This allowed us to create relief blocks out of different materials which we then painted in metallic colours to create the impression of a metallic scultpute.

Year 4 - Our recent Hook Court and MTC parent meeting PowerPoint is attached below if you could not make the meeting or need a reminder about anything.

Hook Court and MTC Parent Meeting

As a hook for our term’s text all about Vikings, Kestrels started the term created some wonderfully designed shields. We had to work together as a clan and create a shield that would best represent what our clan’s values would be.

During our science lessons, we had the opportunity to plan and investigate how water moved through different soils. This tested how permeable the soil was.

There was an opportunity to try and learn a new instrument - the ukulele! We had some very skilled musicians in the class who even taught Mr Rogers a thing or two!

Autumn Term 2

Please see below for the Lower Key Stage 2 parent overview for the term. Our history unit will continue on from the previous term so please see Autumn Term 1 for our history knowledge organiser.

Kestrels made snowman hanging decorations for our school Christmas tree. We designed the decoration before creating them out of fabric and sewing them together using a running stich. Have a look at some of our DT work in action.

We were also given a special performance from OpenView Education for anti-bullying week around the theme of ‘Power for Good’ where we learned the different roles involved in bullying and what we should do to support others who have been bullied.

To start off our geography, Kestrels looked at using a compass. We went out onto the playground and gave each other directions that had to be followed using the compass.

Part of our PE learning for the term focussed on dance. This term, we looked at ‘The Greatest Showman’ and practiced different elements of dance routines linking to circus performers. There was also an opportunity for some ‘Word Tennis’ to support with our vocabulary in our writing. As well as this, we engaged in European Languages day, with on a focus on Spanish: we studied the country of Spain and then created our own dream paella dishes. Finally, our we created some art work based around the work of Vincent van Gogh, using skills of ‘tonking’ and ‘impasto’ to create different painting textures.
