A walk through Downton's history

We have been working hard in Foxes class this week learning all about the history of Downton. We started by creating a time-line of decades from 1900-2020. We then looked at lots of different objects from various decades and became history detectives, asking our own questions and finding answers. We then placed our objects on the time-line.

After looking at objects we then became history detectives looking at photos of the village. The children worked with their talk partners to decide if the photo was very old, old or recent. They talked about clues in the picture that helped them come up with their decision and then shared their reasoning with the rest of the class.

We then went on a walk around Downton and Ian told us all about the history of our village. We learnt some fascinating facts and when we got back to school we wrote a diary entry about our morning.
