Botanical Gallery

As part of our Victorian learning we have been looking at the lives of some prominent figures of the time. One of the extraordinary ladies of this time in history was Marianne North. She had a great interest in flora and fauna, especially in far flung corners of the world. She travelled quite extensively, both as an explorer and a botanical artist. Her work is displayed in a gallery at Kew Gardens in London. In contrast to our mechanical art focus last term, we have in the past few weeks been looking at flowers and foliage and have now created our own Marianne North style gallery. We worked with acrylic paint on canvas, and the children showed great observational skills and a true desire to recreate the work of this wonderful Victorian. The results are simply stunning!
