Fun at the fire station

In Year 2 we have had a great week learning more about the Great Fire of London. We have started to think about our news reports and have been finding information in texts using our skills in skimming and scanning. We were lucky enough to go to Salisbury Fire station in the week and meet some real life fire fighters. They told us what it was like to be a fire fighter and we took part in some activities, practising skills we would need for the job. We learnt how to work together to guide each other through spaces looking for a person who needed rescuing. We also got to look in the fire engine and find out about all the different equipment that fire fighters use. This, we discovered, was very different from the equipment used by people during the Great Fire in 1666.

At the end of the week we had an exciting music lesson with Music Bugs to celebrate world nursery rhyme week. The children learnt some new nursery rhymes and practised singing them. We then performed our nursery rhymes with the rest of Key Stage One to our families.
